4th Edition (2025)

Potrero Chico is one of the world’s most iconic limestone climbing areas, famous for its massive walls and a huge concentration of sport routes. Just outside Hidalgo, Nuevo León, this destination has grown into a global hotspot for multi-pitch climbing, offering hundreds of lines that rise straight out of the valley.

With routes from 5.7 to 5.13 and many accessible multi-pitches in the 5.10 range, Potrero Chico is ideal for climbers looking to step into big-wall sport climbing. The area also offers excellent single-pitch crags such as Outrage WallSurf Bowl, and Estrellas Canyon, known for steep tufa climbing and classic vertical faces.

The climbing season peaks in winter, when the temperatures are perfect and the north–south orientation of the walls makes it easy to chase the shade. Beyond the climbing, Hidalgo provides everything a visiting climber needs—campgrounds, local food, coffee shops, and quick access to Monterrey for rest days.

The Potrero Chico Guidebook continues to be updated regularly, documenting new routes and providing essential beta for one of Mexico’s most important climbing destination.
